Halloween Falls on a Saturday This Year: How Downtown Pleasant Hill's October 31 Fits Together

Halloween 2026 falls on a Saturday. In Pleasant Hill that puts two regular events on the same day. The Pleasant Hill Farmers' Market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the park setting at City Hall, as it does every Saturday of the year, and October 31 is on its 2026 calendar. Downtown Pleasant Hill's Halloween Spooktacular runs from noon to 2 p.m. near Crescent Bistro. From noon to 1 p.m., both are going at once.

That shared hour is the start of a pattern. Three of the four family events on the downtown holiday calendar this year fall on farmers market Saturdays. October 31 is the first, so it's a good day to work out how you like to spend one.

How the day is timed

Here's the order, start to finish:

  1. 9 a.m. The Pleasant Hill Farmers' Market opens at City Hall, 100 Gregory Lane.
  2. Noon. The Halloween Spooktacular begins near Crescent Bistro, and the Trick-or-Treat Trail opens through the shopping center.
  3. 1 p.m. The farmers market closes.
  4. 2 p.m. The Spooktacular ends. Treat bags and trail candy are both offered "while supplies last," so whatever is left goes to the earlier arrivals.

Both "while supplies last" notes point to the same plan. Do your market shopping in the morning and get to Crescent Bistro close to noon rather than close to 2. That way you still have the market's last hour if you forgot something.

The morning half, at City Hall

The Contra Costa Farmers' Markets page for Pleasant Hill lists a vendor roster that mixes farms with prepared-food stalls. Farms include J and J Ramos Farms, Rosales Farms, Rojas Family Farms, Nuno Family Farm, Solorios Organic, Royal Greens Farm and Medina Berry Farms. Food and pantry vendors include Donna's Tamales, Mr. Dim Sum, Flatbread Queen, The Sando Club Deli, Squirrel Bakery, East Bay Bakery, Pete's Gold Honey, Shazad Olive Company, Pacheco Family Ranch's Achadinha Cheese Co. and Zolo Coffee Roasters. The page doesn't say which vendors will be there on which date, so treat the list as the market's usual mix rather than a promise for October 31.

The market organization's seasonality chart lists apples, grapes, pears, persimmons, pomegranates, pumpkins and squash as October produce. It's a general guide to the season, not a stock list for one Saturday. Still, it describes the market you'll find the morning a lot of households go looking for a pumpkin.

If you'd rather leave the car at home, the market page lists County Connection route 106 as the transit option.

The afternoon half, near Crescent Bistro

According to the organizer's listing, the Spooktacular includes professional chalk artists, a Kids Chalk Zone where children can draw their own pieces, a photo booth, face painting, balloon art and treat bags. Costumes are encouraged.

The Trick-or-Treat Trail runs through the shopping center the same day, with 22 participating businesses:

America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses Five Guys Burgers & Fries Morgan Territory Brewing
Batter 'n Icing GNC Peet's Coffee
Cantina Jacks Gotta Eatta Pita Sally Beauty
Club Pilates Haya Ramen Spavia Day Spa
Coco Swirl Jack's Restaurant & Bar T-Mobile
Crescent Bistro K-Lux Nails Togo's
Escobar Tailors Designer Suits Mizu Sushi Travis Credit Union
Zachary's Chicago Pizza

Several of these businesses are fairly new to the center. The City of Pleasant Hill's October 2025 announcement listed Cantina Jack's, Batter N' Icing and Morgan Territory Brewing among the recent downtown grand openings, along with Paris Baguette, Crumbs Breakfast & Lunch Bar and The Royale. For a lot of families, Halloween is the first time they'll step into one of those newer spots, and it happens with a costumed kid holding out a bag.

The building that may not be closed much longer

Downtown's most-watched address sits at 155 Crescent Plaza, in the former Orchard Supply Hardware building. That's where Osaka Marketplace is building a roughly 42,000-square-foot Japanese grocery and market hall. The City of Pleasant Hill's October 2025 announcement expected it to open in mid-2026. That date has passed, and the store hasn't opened yet. The signs since then point to a store that is close.

  • September 18, 2026. Bay Area Telegraph reported that Osaka's jobs page listed Pleasant Hill as an active hiring location for "all positions" and "all departments," and that no exact opening day had been announced.
  • October 1, 2026. WhatNow reported that the store is preparing to open at 155 Crescent Plaza "in November," citing a Visit Pleasant Hill social media announcement.
  • Saturday, October 17. Osaka held a hiring fair at the building from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The flyer asked for fish, meat, kitchen and sushi help and also listed produce, customer service and janitorial shifts.

The Downtown Pleasant Hill store directory still shows the space as "Coming Soon," with hours set at 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. No opening day has been announced. On Halloween you'll likely be walking past a storefront in its last weeks before opening, with a reported November target that hasn't been pinned to a date.

What's planned inside is the part that will change downtown Saturdays. The city's announcement, as Bay Area Telegraph summarized it, describes a semi-outdoor Japanese market hall in the old garden-center area. Mini-restaurants there would serve sushi, ramen and bento boxes, next to a grocery with fresh produce, seafood and imported Japanese products. WhatNow notes that the company's existing stores, in Fremont and Foster City, offer online pre-orders of sushi and prepared items for pickup. If the November timing holds, downtown will have a market with its own food hall a short trip from the City Hall farmers market, ahead of the rest of the holiday calendar.

The rest of the season runs on the same Saturdays

Halloween is the first stretch of the season where the farmers market and a downtown event share a day. Here's what comes after it:

Date Event Time Location Farmers market that day?
Sat., Nov. 21 Light Up The Night with the Christmas tree lighting 6 to 8 p.m. Near Chipotle Yes, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Sat., Dec. 19 A Merry Morning with Santa 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Near Jack's Restaurant & Bar Yes, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Thu., Dec. 31 Noon Year's Eve 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Plaza near Jack's Restaurant & Bar No

Light Up The Night is a City of Pleasant Hill event put on with the downtown merchants. The listing promises performances, crafts, caroling and the tree lighting. It's an evening event, so on November 21 the market and the tree lighting are separate trips on the same day.

December 19 works more like Halloween. Santa's two hours, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., fall entirely inside the market's hours, so the overlap that Halloween gives you for one hour lasts the full two hours. The market keeps going after that, too. Its 2026 calendar runs every Saturday through December 26.

By the time Santa arrives near Jack's, there's a fair chance the old Orchard Supply building will be open too.

If you're working out your own Pleasant Hill Saturdays this season and want to talk through the area, from the market at City Hall to what Osaka's opening could mean for Crescent Plaza, Ryan Wang is glad to listen. Start with a conversation.
